i choose you every time

Love is not easy. Being in love will make you the happiest person on earth, it will have you waking up feeling like you’re on cloud nine but it can also drive you crazy and push you into some dark places. That’s the power of love. It stirs emotions so strong they can literally alter your conscious mind. That person starts living in your head — well, at least she lives in mine. The crazy part is, you don’t really choose who or how it happens. It just happens. And once it does, it becomes an everyday journey that requires intentionality. I feel like the love I saw in movies growing up skewed my perception, because they portrayed such a light-hearted version of what this really is. Maybe that’s why our generation struggles with love, or avoids it altogether. Also, for most of us, our parents’ relationship gave us our first example of what love looks like and depending on how that turned out, it shapes how we approach love as adults. It ain’t easy, and it’s not all flowers and rainbows. It requires compromise and understanding between two people with different life experiences and traumas. But when you find that understanding and compromise, you heal together — side by side, hand in hand. And I think that’s what makes love so rewarding: when you keep choosing each other, and keep figuring it out together.

Baby, I choose you every time.
